I'm not sure what community to post this on, or how it'll be responded to, but I'm genuinely curious and overall just feeling concerned for my families current state of standing given our age and was hoping for some statistical sample to compare to.
Times are crazy, and prices for everything is crazier, and it feels like everyone is so much farther ahead than we are, but I have no idea truly because in person, I feel it's just rude to ask. So I ask, where are you in life financially, job wise, family wise, and how do you feel mentally about it all?
I am unsure if I'm doing enough to set my family up for a good future so far or not. But I'd like to hear from others. This is where we currently are...
Married with 2 kids, 2 and 4 years old. We're both 29 and 28.
Live in Goose Creek, SC in a house we bought for 360k, mortgage is 2.5k @ 7% interest
Own 1 small car, paying off a newer SUV (2018 CRV) with 14.5k to go at 11.5% interest
I'm active military E-5 going to E-6, wife works at a base store as a secretary for about $20.50/hr
1k current credit card debt (thanks Christmas) but no other debts
Our liquid savings combined are about 9k...
Our retirement savings is currently at 52K (TSP)
I don't know if we're in a decent spot in life just yet or not comparably to others. I've talked briefly with others I work with that are much better off and some days we feel we're just strapped for money all the time, but how do you feel? Where are you in life? Does the economy feel as shit for you as it's felt for us? I feel like I'm unable to toss nearly as much into my savings as I'd like, but idk. I'm curious.
Thanks for stopping by.
