Unwell

Hi all a family friend that lives a few hours away from us became unwell and was taken to the hospital after his father passed away earlier last year. His Passing was expected as he had a terminal illness so it wasn’t a sudden death as such (without trying to sound ignorant) I heard the other day one of his sons who’s in his 50s had to go to the hospital due to a psychiatric breakdown at home is what we’ve been told.

What exactly does it mean when someone becomes unwell like that can they ever recover from it and does it go on medical records, drivers lincence etc?
