I don't understand how so many people did extracurriculars in high school

Movies and social media make it sound like a common experience when everything in high school is hypercompetitive. I don't know if I am dumb or untalented or what, but I could not pass tryouts for any sports or pass auditions for band. My debate skills were not good enough for the debate team. All I did was study and do homework. I don't know how others did so many extracurriculars in high school
