Ever since I’ve been exposed to the plethora of entertainment, boredom seems to be the last thing I wanted to experience. When dissatisfaction occurs, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, and Netflix would be my go-to medicine to escape from the dome of ennui. But why am I avoiding this emotional state? Why am I apprehensive of boredom? Ironically, through boredom I find the answer: I am frightened by my own thoughts, I don’t know how to control my emotions when random thoughts come in, and due to overexposure to dopamine and pleasure, other things seem meaningless. You see, boredom gives you the opportunity to be completely submerged in your own thoughts—hence, this will lead to self-awareness in a deep manner. This introspection would yield a creative state of mind that you have never encountered before. To my understanding, boredom would not only increase your productivity, but it also subconsciously exposes you to practicing mindfulness.
