I've been thinking a lot about how to make decisions in life, and I came to the conclusion that, all other things being equal, having more money is never worse than having less money. Therefore, all other things being equal, you should always make a choice that maximizes how much money you have/ will have; in other words, this is a choice that you will never regret.
I wanted to see if any of y'all could come up with an example or an argument as to why this is wrong.
Keep in mind that I'm thinking of this regardless of how the money is obtained. Certainly, we can all think of tradeoffs where other things are sacrificed in favor of getting more money; for example, choosing a career you don't enjoy because it pays better, using deception or other immoral tactics to gain money, putting more hours into a job and having less time for your family, etc. I'm only referring to situations where the choice between two or more options is equivalent in terms of all other aspects, and the only difference between choices is the amount of money one has or will obtain; for example, choosing between 2 different jobs where everything is equivalent--hours, lifestyle, enjoyment, meaningfulness, etc--except for the salary. As such, another way of framing the question might be: Is there anything intrinsically bad about having more money?
Thanks in advance for weighing in!
