Humans have done so many experiments with rats and insects. They are regarded as specimens.
They don't live that long and they aren't capable of much thought. Imagine for a second that there is a species higher than you that is capable of much more understanding. And you are the insect. We are the rats.
This post is made for those who are aware of the rat farm experiments. Humans have observed the emergent properties of rat behavior as a whole.
If there is an intelligent species above us, they won't be able to discern the good from the bad. Everything that happens in our society will be regarded as an emergency property of our nature. Just like we do with the rat colonies. No scientists talk about the politics between the rats. There is only the overall rat behavior that is observed.
Just like we do with rat colonies, those above us won't have any opinions about good people and bad people. There's only the obvious result of our collective behavior.
Imagine that. Imagine if it turns out that your personal world of selfish behavior actually has a macro consequence. You didn't put the shopping cart away. You cheated on your husband. You paid someone less than their labor was actually worth so you could turn a profit.
Why would you be surprised that society as a whole is that unfavorable? If everyone is acting so selfishly, why would society as a whole be any better?
