When Maximillion goes to the Count to get help, the count seems unbothered by the possible death of a child (Valentine) and only intervenes when Maximillion confesses his love for Valentine.
Then when he finds Edouard dead, he feels like he has gone too far.
It seems to me to be a problem with the characters motivation and morals, what changed between the 2 scenes?
