The PA Game Commission Should Be Investigated

Tammy Shiery, a 64-year-old woman from Bullskin Township, Pennsylvania, took in a deer she named "Baby" when he was just a fawn. It's important to note that Baby was born on her property. She raised him, cared for him, had him vaccinated, even had him registered as an emotional support animal.

However, in February 2025, the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) showed up at her home, determined to take Baby away. According to them, Baby was a wild-born deer, and under state law, that made him illegal to keep—even though Tammy believed she had the right paperwork. When game wardens arrived with a search warrant, she refused to open the fence, leading to her arrest on multiple charges, including resisting arrest and unlawful possession of wildlife. The scene was captured on video, showing officers dragging Baby away with a rope as Tammy pleaded for them to stop.

From there, the situation only got more bizarre. At first, people feared Baby would be euthanized since he had been castrated and couldn’t be released into the wild. The PGC refused to say where he was, only confirming later that he had been placed in a “licensed facility.” In a surprising turn, the District Attorney dropped all charges against Tammy after the first hearing, calling them absurd. Public officials like Mayor JD Longo and Representative David Maloney started taking an interest in the case as well.

One of the biggest questions is about the PGC itself—an agency that has a massive $500 million in reserve funds but seems to spend its time cracking down on harmless cases like this instead of addressing bigger wildlife concerns. Some have started pushing for an investigation into the agency’s finances and enforcement tactics, wondering if taxpayer money is being wasted on unnecessary seizures rather than actual conservation efforts.

And then there’s an even darker theory: what if Baby the deer was actually euthanized, and the PGC just doesn’t want to admit it? Some are even questioning whether this case could expose a black market for venison or illegal wildlife trade within the state. After all, Pennsylvania has a long history of deer hunting, and if the PGC is regularly confiscating and “disposing” of wildlife, where do those animals actually go?

To make matters worse, Tammy has alleged that one of the PGC wardens involved in the raid, Shawn Greevy, had possibly been stalking her for two years. If true, this raises serious concerns about whether this was just a routine wildlife enforcement or something more personal.

If mismanagement, financial corruption, or illegal activities are uncovered, it could lead to major changes—whether that means new laws, a complete overhaul of the agency, or even the exposure of something much bigger.
