The lie of how rapidly the US has become a fascist state is being told by the media and their powerful handlers to hide their complicity in what has actually been a fairly long gradual process. I'm never the person to downplay the increasely overt fascist actions the Trump administration has taken recently. The kidnapping of dissidents of the genocide in Gaza and deporting "suspected" criminals without due process are obviously different yet I will argue that this country has been on this slippery slope now for decades.
Since the invasion and occupation of Iraq, where the US made up the threat of WMDs, and the mass medias complicity by refusing to callout those lies, we have been moving towards this place we find our selves in now. When the Bush administration began detaining "suspected" terrorists indefinitely without due process we have been snowballing inevitably to this point in time where one gangster can threaten the lives of freedom of us all.
Soon after the occupation began, the "Patriot" act was passed which gave the state unlimited surveillance powers that obviously violated the constitution yet most politicians justified it. They foolishly argued it was necessary to keep us safe knowing full well the threat was exaggerated in order to justify holding Iraq and stealing their oil. This initial subversion of our constitutional rights is indirectly responsible for the full scale assault we are witnessing now. The media had an obligation and responsibility to continually criticize the Bush then Obama administrations actions for the sake of democracy. Yet they chose to manufacture consent and venerate the military industrial complex who were gradually eroding our rights.
Now enter Trump. Who again is an authoritarian, demagogue and convicted felon, but the medias portrayal of him as an apparition to American norms are fraudulent. He is only different than the manicured perception we have built of ourselves but is unfortunately well within trend of the previous decades. Trump didn't come out of nowhere simply due to interference by the Russians by gained power due to the gradual acceptance of alternative facts and Xenophobia that Bush Cheney used so effectively.
Ultimately I'm convinced the medias refusal to acknowledge the impact of the fake war in Iraq and their copability by supporting it, on Trump's accent will undermine their ability to effectively criticize him.
