Someone explain to me how Syrian people have been freed since Assad fled but at the same time radical islamists are taking over? How does that make sense?

I might be missing something,

I know the media is pushing pro western narratives which was to get Assad at all cost.
Now what can Syrian people expect from the new leadership? Doesn't sound like a great outlook from my perspective...
