“So, why are you still single?”… uh, why are you in a relationship?

This question is the worst.

Being single in my community of friends and family is shunned. I don’t want to be single but this question drives me crazy. It’s work to date, and every relationship isn’t a romcom, it’s not some fantasy to be celebrated. I’m more happy now alone than the nearing end of every previous relationship with my exes. As a guy, that happens to also be an introvert, the pressure to approach is absurd. Talking to a woman that I want to ask out honestly is vomit inducing. It’s like my nervous system is being set on fire. And I’m supposed to be cool and collected while everything is malfunctioning?

Then there’s online dating, what a joke. I eventually get a date, but the apps are built to keep you on them. You have to get past the bots and scammers, talk to women that reply once a week, and finally get lucky with someone that actually wants to date. AND, if you get to that person, you can’t fuck it up by asking the wrong way through sms, which I suck at.

Next time someone asks me ‘So, why are you still single?’ I’m going to rattle off this post verbatim. I’m going to tell them the truth instead of entertaining them, with a fake laugh, and some saying. With excuses that actually don’t matter.

I’m single because it’s easier than dating!! That’s the truth!! I want to find someone, but it’s a cold world, and it’s an endless pursuit that you are either good at or completely suck at.
