How do you know someone is using you?

4 weeks ago 14

Coworker had a birthday. People have warned me about her. Said she uses me. I started to reflect back on the situation, and some examples can be:

• never pays me for her Coffee/Food order when I pickup for the team

• never asks if I want a Coffee/Food if she goes (only gets for herself)

• wanted me to do her schoolwork/papers for online college

• befriended me, called me all of the time, complimented, when I agreed to help her with schoolwork/papers

• stopped calling me when I said I can’t help her with college work because I have my own stress, and suggested her to pay somebody

• bought a mini cake for her birthday to be amicable. She left it in the work refrigerator for two days. Never touched it or offered it to anyone. I discarded it because it was expired and thought she didn’t want it since it sat there for two days. I bought an orchard as well, which she took home.

She made a big uproar this morning, told everyone at work that I discarded the cake and said she was planning to have it today with everyone. Started dropping 10 names in leadership. I asked how could 10 people have eaten the small expired cake anyway (made for tiny slices to accommodate 6 people), she had all answers. She played the victim card and manipulated me to buy her two big cakes today to replace it. Two people show up for it. She complained about the selection. I asked her what kind (she said coconut and tiramisu) and I asked if she wanted chocolate as a substitute if they didn’t have (Door Dash says to do that). She said yes, but they ended up having the first selection. She complained in front of me because it was not chocolate.

I grew up in an environment where I was gaslit a lot, and still learning through it. I recognize my responsibility for being a people pleaser. I really was just being a kind person.

I am being used right now, correct? Because I feel she is, and that she is a very selfish, ungrateful, fake mean girl type of person. Thanks everyone.
