Often, it's our perspective that's the problem

So many of us think our lives are problematic, but often, that perception is the actual problem.

For example, some of us even on this subreddit may feel like we haven't achieved much in life, and we perceive that the problem is a lack of achievement, but the actual problem may be that we think achievement is really important in life. It makes sense that we'd think that; our whole lives, we've been conditioned into thinking achievement is really important. School, work, and social media condition us to think that way.

We might also believe achievement is the way to contentment in life, but maybe, contentment comes from something else. We might even believe we just can't be truly content in life, but maybe the actual problem here is with our expectations of what life should be.

But a shift in our perspective can change everything for us. If we can realize that many other people in many other countries around the world don't really strive for achievement, and yet, they can find contentment, then maybe we can find contentment too. If we can realize that other living creatures don't exert themselves like we do, then maybe we can exist more like them and find contentment in that. And if we can realize that life just is, and it isn't about anything more than simple existence and coexistence, then maybe we can be truly content.

What do you think about this perspective? A similar view on life is shared by people like Alan Watts, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and George Carlin. On that exact subject, there's a video here.
