No matter how much this world progress it is always survival of the fittest. Even if you have supportive family, at end of the day you only have yourself. Stay resilient and stoic. Simplify everything in life don't make it complicated. Don't let people preferences affect how you think of yourself. Please stay educated and in shape. The opposite gender should not define your happiness.
