More like the Green Knight

1 month ago 20

I’ve read Tolkien’s translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight a few times, and I’m currently revisiting it now as it’s (sort of) a Christmas story.

I am absolutely in love with the story and particularly with Tolkien’s translation of it. It reads so beautifully, like few other things I’ve ever read. I love the poetry, the vocabulary, and really everything about it.

I’m pretty unfamiliar with works like this, and curious if anyone can suggest anything similar to read? I’ve read all of Tolkien’s Middle Earth work of course, but I’d be really interested in other modern English translations of such ancient stories. Are there other Arthurian books that have this same beautiful poetry, and such?
