How do you feel about Oscar Wilde being considered as gothic literature?

Just genuinely curious. While I do believe Oscar made significant contributions to gothic literature in works like The Portrait of Dorian Gray I remember reading the critic's preface as to how Oscar shouldn't be considered a gothic literature author in comparison to the work of his parents. Particularily, his father. What do you think of this?
