Back in 1997, Mel Waters called into Coast to Coast AM, hosted by Art Bell. He said he owned some rural property near Ellensburg, Washington, and on that land was a very strange hole.
Mel described the hole as being:
- Perfectly round and deep
- Lined with some kind of man-made bricks for a certain distance
- About 9 feet across
He and others had apparently been dropping things into it for years - trash, old appliances, dead animals, but nothing ever made a sound when it hit the bottom.
Wanting to find out how deep it was, Mel lowered fishing line with a weight attached, using a reel and lots of line. He claimed to have lowered over 80,000 feet of line, and still didn’t hit bottom.
Mel said that local wildlife avoided the hole, especially dogs, which would act frightened and refuse to go near it, even when dragged.
He also claimed that people in the area believed the hole had strange powers, and used it for things like disposing of deceased pets.
One of the most bizarre stories Mel told was about a neighbor who tossed a dead dog into the hole. Later, that same dog was seen alive and wandering the area, but it acted strangely and never came close to people again.
After going public, Mel said the U.S. government showed up, declared his property a "crash site", and forbid him from going near it.
That was the first call. The second call (I believe) was a psyop to discredit the original call. It's too ridiculous to post here.
