If given the choice, would you continue working even after reaching retirement age?

2 weeks ago 16

My dad doesn’t want to retire because he’s unsure of what to do with his time. Sometimes, I feel that being in this situation is actually a privilege just having the option of retirement in the first place feels like a fortunate position to be in, rather than being forced to continue working out of necessity. The ability to choose whether to keep working, rather than adjusting to a completely new lifestyle after working most of one’s life, seems like a unique challenge. As someone in my 30s, I often wonder if I’ll feel the same way when I’m older. If I’m lucky enough to reach a point where I can retire, I’m not sure if I’d want to. I might still want to stay connected to work in some capacity, but I’m uncertain. I’m even starting to question whether retirement itself will be an option, especially since I understand it can look different for different people.

Has anyone else struggled with or thought about these things regarding retirement?

I’d love to hear from those who have already retired how was your transition from working to retirement?
