Randomly came across this video showcasing some of these tik toks of chinese distributors/manufacturers saying most of these "luxury" (chanel gucci etc) brands are made in china. These are tik tok accounts of the actual chinese manufacturers
I personally already knew this before watching, but seeing people start to scratch their heads at this is refreshing to me. It really is just brand brainwashing.
Anyways, although Trump has extended the tik tok deal deadline due to the tariffs, and even said he is willing to reduce them to close the deal- I feel like the more this tension rises with the "Tariff war" the more the public opinion will shift towards seeing how we really are brainwashed to consume and not think about it with everything thats marketed to us. Like tariffs really has china exposing these big brands to people who watch tik tok and thats just funny to me. A lot of people online have mentioned the word "overconsumption" a lot more in recent years as well.
Like , why pay so much for "luxury items" when the only thing unique or special you get out of it is a cool badge aka a brand logo. The whole thing makes me feel like the general public is on a hamster wheel of "buy this buy that buy buy buy!" Like that scene straight out of the movie they live.
Not that tik tok shop doesn't do that. they just want you to buy through their app. Same as all the others so they can tax. I will say though, I do ecommerce as a side gig and tik tok shop taxes the least fees out of amazon ebay instagram and shopify.
But yea I connected the dots of why that weird thing with tik tok happened in january and now we're here, and it seems like chinas manufacturers are rebelling and are desperately trying to keep their factories from shutting down. If china didn't still own the app, the algorithm would probably suppress their videos in a heartbeat. (Not saying if the roles were reversed it would be any different.) just an observation though. Maybe bytedance (the current owners of tiktok) are trying to pull strings as well currently.
Just found it interesting. I dont even use tik tok with the exception of for a side hustle and couldn't care less what happens when the deal goes through. It is a weird time to be alive though.
