Four were for college, but I genuinely enjoyed all four. The other three were personal, I just finished the seventh today. I’ve never been a reader, I could count the number of books I’ve read for fun since middle school on one hand. But this year was different. A book I had to read for a summer research trip made me really enjoy reading, I found topics and genres that interest me.
This year I read books about:
1. America’s history of using and reshaping rivers
2. Soil’s role in the strength of civilizations
3. Tying indigenous environmental knowledge into western scientific knowledge
4. Jewish history in Germany from about 1750 to 1930
5. A spill of LEGO pieces into the Atlantic Ocean in the 90s and its legacy
6. “Between the World and Me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates
7. The history of Marvel Studios
I’ve ordered seven more on my book wishlist, they should be here soon. Two environmental science related books, two history related books, the book Conan O’Brien’s assistant Sona Movsesian wrote, and a hobby related book. The seventh one is a compilation of writings by my great uncle published after his death by his wife, he was a fairly well known newspaper writer/editor/columnist in his area.
I’m really hoping next year I’ll read more. I don’t want to be a non-reader anymore. I’ve made myself step away from social media more to have more time for reading (Reddit is the exception, I find it very easy to regulate my usage of this one). 2025 will be my most literate year yet.
