I have reached an interesting point in my life.

I came to the US almost 10 years ago as a legal Immigrant to get my masters degree in computer science. I have been working in the US ever since then. I have never broken any law or violated the terms of my visa. My neighbors have never complained against me. I pay my taxes.

I saved a decent amount of money over the years. Somewhere close to 1.2M.

Now, I have to go back home to renew my visa stamp. Legally speaking I am allowed to stay in the US till 2027. The stamp is required if I leave US and I want to return back. And I have to leave the country to get the stamp. Domestic stamping was stopped 2 decades ago.

I haven't been home in 3 years. I have booked flights to India for January. I will get the stamping done in India in this trip.

The problem is that there is a very good chance that Trump will get elected in November. And he is going to do something crazy like ban all foreign workers from entering the country through an executive order. Which will be challenged in courts. But by the time the ban is lifted, I will lose my job.

It's not a big problem for me though. I can make the 1.2M last the remainder of my life in India. A lavish lifestyle in India only costs 25K/year. With 8 years of work experience in the US all of it at big brand name companies. I will get a fantastic job in India. That is if I choose to continue to work. Retirement at 33 years of age, sounds scary. Also, I get to live with my parents again.

The US will however lose roughly 50K to 60K USD in taxes that I have been paying every year. And the 1.2M I earned in the US, I will be spending it entirely in India instead of US. Strengthening Indian economy, creating jobs in India etc. Also India will gain one additional skilled, experienced, educated tech worker :)
