Not everyone is equally smart, and some people can do tasks on the fraction of time of others. In high school, I had to study 5-7 hours per day outside of class to get As while many of my peers got As with minimal studying. I didn’t have time for socializing and extracurriculars, and that killed me when it came to applying to college.
Sure, a less intelligent person can outwork an intelligent but lazy person, but all it takes is for the intelligent person to press the gas pedal a little before they leave you behind in the dust.
