How much living space is enough?

I grew up 5 people, 3 bedroom, 1200 sq ft, 1 bath home with small room for TV in basement. No issues getting 3 kids and Dad out to school and work, no lineups at bathroom. Kids bathed at night. In morning brushed teeth, peed. All meals, whether daily or special, were at same table. Two people worked fine in a small kitchen. My sister and I shared a bedroom, brother had his, parents theirs. One car that got Dad to work and later both parents. 1970's. Watching and listening to people 2024. A house for 3 kids and parents needs 2 bathrooms plus powder room, 4 bedrooms plus master suite, chef's kitchen with large island plus kitchen eating table, marble counters, high end appliances, wine fridge, livingroom and family room, seperate diningroom, large fenced yard and a garage. Minimum 3600 sq feet. All this but then complain about how high their mortgage is. I understand that everyone is different with life choices and yes, people used to live in one room log cabins at one time. No judgement. Just curious, how much space do you think a family of 5 truly needs to live?
