How Bad is the DMV, Really?

I need to change the address on my driver's license. This was really easy when I first moved down to Broward from Sumter and I was able to do it online. For some reason I can't do that again. When I first moved to FL from OK it was 30 minutes to get my FL DL and plates.

I have heard nothing but horror stories about the Ft Lauderdale area DMVs. You need to get there by 5 in the morning and hope you make the cut. Is this true? I am blessed to be in a position where I can just go visit my parents up in Sumter at some point and visit the DMV there, but I sure would like to handle it during my day-to-day and think it's pretty fucked up if they make it that hard for people to get and ID.
