Have any of y'all read these Gay classics?

I'm thinking of reading some Queer classics (maybe y'all can recommend some others too while you're here?) and I've been thinking of reading Fire from heaven by Mary Renault and Giovanni's room by James Baldwin. As someone who loves and is fascinated by Alexander the Great and James Baldwin I think I'll love these books (even though I have some issues with Mary's historical accuracy and James's tragic ending.)

I'd like to know what y'all thought of them, the characters, the writing, etc, and if you'd recommend them?
