Got chocolates, and laid off - same company, same day

1 month ago 18

I just got laid off today, and it was as unexpected as getting into an accident. I work remotely for a company in a neighboring country, and just got chocolates today as their holiday gift I guess. One hour later, my manager called me on my phone (I thought it was about the project I was managing), told me HR was with us (thought it was about my appraisal since I'll complete two years at this company in January). I started to understand the reality only when the HR started saying how they have unfortunate news for me, and that they were giving me my 30 day notice. They mentioned it didn't have anything to do with my performance, and said it was a cost-cutting measure. But I can't deny how my world fell apart just before the holiday season. I have some savings to last a few months. I currently rent an apartment that is going to be too expensive to live in without a job. And I have no one to talk to about this. Literally no one. I don't have any friends, my family is in a different continent, and my relationship ended earlier this year. I am so scared about the future because I got this job after 2 years of being unemployed after grad school. I keep spiraling to the point where I now have a severe headache. I'm feeling all alone and just wish I had someone to support me. For context, no this wasn't my dream job, and I have been passively hoping for a better job in 2025, maybe one in the same country. But the suddenness of this brought back all my insecurities from the 2 years I had to struggle about finding a job, and I am just feeling very alone in the world right now.
