Reconstruction was the period after the Civil War from 1865 to 1877 when the U.S. government tried to rebuild the South and integrate formerly enslaved Black Americans into society with rights and protections

Early KKK leadership included high-ranking Freemasons like Nathan Bedford & Albert Pike (33 degree Mason)

Motive: Preserve Southern aristocracy, racial caste, and deter cross-racial worker alliances.
