Lately, I’ve been feeling pessimistic and disconnected, like I’m just going through the motions. I’m about to finish my CS degree and looking for a full-time remote software developer job, but I have no idea where I actually want to live.
I’ve lived in Eastern Europe, China, and in the USA- Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Florida, and I’ve worked in retail, hospitality, and tried few small personal businesses (both in-person and online). But the consumerism, capitalism, crime, and endless rat race in the U.S. are really draining me. Seeing so much of it firsthand through retail and hospitality has made me question if I can ever truly be happy here.
I’ve been considering moving back to Shenzhen-China, trying out Saudi Arabia/UAE, or settling somewhere cheaper in Southeast Asia. Sometimes, I even dream of just disappearing to an isolated island and living a simple life away from all of this.
For those who’ve moved and changed his/her life dramatically (or even those who’ve felt this way), what’s your experience? Where did you go, and did it help? Would love to hear your thoughts.
