Contemporary Novel Syllabus Suggestions

Hello!

I am in the process of developing a syllabus on the contemporary novel for gifted high school seniors. I am using the term contemporary fairly loosely and am really thinking of 1960-present, give or take. I am torn between dividing it between British and American (perhaps a handful of each) or just picking an assortment of books that will work well in terms of providing a sample of the different kinds of novels that have been written. In my mind, I imagine some combination of accessible works by Pynchon, DeLillo, Roth, McEwan, Mitchel, Zadie Smith, Cormac McCarthy, or whatever else. If I get too weird, I will lose the students. At any rate, I am soliciting thoughts from the readers here as I am less well-versed in this period than I am in the pre-20th century British tradition (I'm a Romanticist by training). In addition, I am trying to locate a handful of essays or other academic pieces that sprinkle in that will give students an overview of how the novel has changed over the past 75 years or so. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!
