I (29F) recently became unemployed and went through some financial difficulties. With Christmas approaching I’m not sure if I should be buying gifts. I don’t have kids. I would be buying gifts for people above the age of 30. I’ve already told everyone not to get me anything since I won’t be able to return the favour. My family is big on gift exchanging and most of my close family has already purchased gifts for me. Has anyone experienced this? What would you do in my situation? It seems irresponsible to be buying materialistic unnecessary things just because it’s “tradition” when I can’t really afford it.
