Anyone else out there love the grind?

35(M) with a professional career that I love but when describing it to others the immediate reaction is they want nothing to do with it and I can’t help but wonder if their opinion is the new norm.

I work full time in office at a job that is relatively high pressure with tight deadlines. I consider the culture old school, if you do well and the company does well you get rewarded and if not then you have a small window of opportunity to turn it around before being shown the door. I get adequate support and resources to succeed but it’s mostly on my shoulders to meet my target KPI’s.

Managers and colleagues do not sugar coat anything, they remain professional and respectful but will hold each other accountable and do no except many excuses.

There really are virtually no resources allocated to the consideration of mental health, well being, DEI, sustainability, or other factors that are not considered a direct attribute to the bottom line. As a result our compensation in salary, retirement, and tuition training reimbursement is well above the industry average.

I would approximate the minimum amount of hours needed to perform adequately are between 45 - 50 and I’ve been putting in 60 for sometime and dedicate another 5 - 10 on continued education which is expected.

With that said.. Have I been manipulated into being content with a toxic culture or is it still acceptable to work at high paying job that focuses only on profit (within the confines of the law) and has a culture of no nonsense and little flexibility.
