What did my cousin mean by this saying? I honestly thought it was funny and just wanted to understand better

He was talking about why he’s not married. He goes “I’ve gotten close with a few girls, but I always saw the light.”

I thought it was pretty funny. I hear alot of folks talking about “seeing the light” in a death or near death context, but not this. What does it mean? Either way, it made me laugh
