The 40 Year Confusion

3 hours ago 3

One thing I cannot comprehend (I am only 27) is people who are 60, 70, 80+ years old who have been working their whole life and have no savings, no assets, no retirement, etc. I get that terrible things can happen in life, and people do not make a lot. But to work for 40 years and not have a dime saved just screams irresponsible to me. Perhaps I come from a perspective doused in privilege. I make decent money. However, I am meticulous and live below my means, budget, etc. If I didn’t make enough to save money, I guarantee I would find a way. I would increase my value somehow. Am I a dirtbag for having this view? I am not judging their happiness or quality of life lived, as that can be independent of financial status.
