I teach high school creative writing and want to use a new example for our "conflict" lesson. I teach conflict through the lens of the big six: character v. character, character v. self, character v. society, character v. nature, character v. technology, and character v. supernatural.
Traditionally I've used Priscilla and the Wimps by Richard Peck. It's entertaining enough, and the conflict is very clear, but I honestly just use it because I inherited it from the last teacher at the school. I don't actually love the story, and it feels a bit young for high schoolers. Also, it's not complex enough to show multiple types of conflict -- it's mainly character v. character, which is already the easiest one for students to understand.
I am looking for a (short, the shorter the better) short story that would be engaging to high schoolers and shows at least two types of conflict clearly. For some reason I'm struggling to pull short stories from my brain right now that fit the bill. I am mentally cooked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
(I know this technically breaks the "no recommendations" rule, but I think it's valuable as a short story analysis question as well maybe lol)
