Do you think people buy into religion out of fear/hope? It's pretty dark thinking we pass away, get buried, consumed by bugs and cease entirely. Our whole life ultimately spent for nothing, unless you care about leaving your mark, being remembered or things like that. But ultimately you're gone. It's just as it was before you born.
The idea that there's a magical guy in the sky and a paradise awaiting us after death where we will be united with all our loved ones sure sounds like a better sales pitch than being consumed by creepy crawlies and micro-organisms.
Is religion a sort of crutch for people who are scared to face the reality of death? Is this why people feel compelled to buy into something with no tangible evidence whatsoever to substantiate its existence?
