I’ve read half of The Idiot translated by Garnett and can’t get past part 3 because of how much i dislike the translation - very repetitive to the point it got into my nerves and now i have to buy another translated edition
I’ve read Anna Karenina by Louise and Aylmer Maude and it was basically perfect, rich and advanced english and hardly ever repeated words.
Now what about the count of monte cristo? Im searching for a translator who isn’t repetitive and yet it’s rich and beautiful in vocabulary.
I read somewhere i should get the Robin Buss one because “he makes you forget you’re reading a translation”. Any other recommendations? I need to be ready if the local bookshop doesn’t have a Robin Buss edition)
