It makes me sick to my stomach hearing teachers and toxic people telling me “you can do anything if you work hard” or “the world is a meritocracy” when I was a kid. When I grew older, people suddenly switched and told me “not everyone gets the same opportunities” or “you don’t deserve this job because a doctor diagnosed you with health issues”. If the world is so unjust and unfair, why are we lying to the youth and telling them otherwise? It makes you mentally sick when are told one thing only to be told you are wrong when you get older. It feels like gaslighting.
From my own experience, people tell me to always work hard. In high school, I got cut from sports despite working extremely hard and being respectful. I got denied from the military because of health issues. People tell me I am not entitled to this or that and that no one gives two fucks about your work ethic. People tell me I am broken and mentally ill for wanting opportunities and that I should be happy I got nothing. Can we please stop fucking LYING?
