In America, the media and popular culture teaches us that you matter more than anyone else and that you should ignore what anyone else thinks of you. Except that isn’t how it works in reality.
In high school, I got cut from sports teams. In college, I got cut from frats and engineering clubs. I got rejected from the military over sleep issues. I can go on and on. It hurts seeing someone else be welcomed with open arms for an opportunity while the door is slammed shut on you
