I’m aware of the effect of time speeding up as you get older. I have been for a while. I didn’t imagine it would feel like this.
I still feel like 2022 was yesterday. Didn’t process 2023 at all. 2024 was a blur. January felt like a week.
Besides that, I feel like everything is ending and nothing new is taking its place.
There was a time where I was making new friends and for the past few years it’s essentially been an elimination game of people from my previous friend group, few are left and no one new is coming in.
Idk. Everyone is leaving and moving away and pets and people are dying and cars and houses are being sold and nothing from my childhood is left anymore. Things I thought were certain about the world as a kid aren’t certain anymore.
I can see myself at 30, 40 years old still feeling like this, still doing the exact same shit I do now with no improvement. These ages felt so far away just a while ago but at the rate that I’m processing the passage of time I’ll basically be 30 next year. If that makes any sense. It’s not even fear of being “old”, I genuinely do not give a shit about social norms and would have no problem doing the things I like and living how I wanna live at whatever age I am. It’s the feeling that I have so little time left to be alive. And it’s going by so quickly. Besides, other people don’t share my same views and I’m scared that as I get older I won’t be able to relate to any of my peers because they’ll be worried about their family and their job or whatever as proper adults do and me being asexual and aromantic and having an unconventional job + never having a family or kids will not be able to relate to them. Or find people who understand me.
Is this just normal 20something year old angst or is there something wrong with me? Does this feeling ever leave? I can’t shake the feeling that my life was supposed to end years ago. Like the movie is over and I’m the only one left in the theater staring at the credits. Everything that was supposed to happen has happened.
