I bought a couple of penguin clothbounds last year Anna Karenina and Dracula and was very disappointed by how easily the covers wore away. I was careful not to touch the cover of Dracula after pretty much removing any trace of cover from Anna Karenina after reading it. This was really frustrating since these books are so pretty yet wear so fast. Like why buy a hardback if you can't even tell what book it is by the time you finish? Anyways, I bought a couple of the new editions (Tale of Two Cities and Jane Eyre) this year with the patterns printed on the sides of the pages as well, and so far so good. The covers have not faded or worn with use, and I have not been careful as I wanted to see if they were better now since the printed covers look and feel more permanent. Is this just me or have they finally made these books durable to make it worth purchasing these beautiful editions?
