By that I don’t mean fantasy works that can stand out on their literary merit alone (such as LotR, earthsea, dune etc), but rather fantasy works where the worldbuilding and the setting are central elements keeping the books interesting.
Nowadays I find personal, psychological or societal dissections a lot more interesting than another dive into an author’s worldbuilding, no matter how ingenious it may be.
Anyone else experienced the same as time went on?
