How do you pick what book to read next?

2 weeks ago 7

Since leaving college a few years ago, I've found that I'm frequently in reading ruts. When I find a book that I enjoy, I'm able to sit down fully focused and read it to completion. But finding that next book to read has been strangely very difficult.

I'm not really sure what my tastes are in books now and I feel like the internet has become a much harder place to navigate. Other book-related subreddits, though great, tend to loop through the same recommendations. Google has become increasingly hard to use and the search results are increasingly less relevant to what I'm typing.

I'm aware of book magazines, but these (reasonably so) tend to require a subscription. The book magazines I've seen also primarily focus on the now and brand new books. Are there any book magazines that cover books from a wide range of years, not just the current year? I didn't look too closely so I'd be more than happy to pay for a magazine that broadens my reading scope.

How do you find new books to read? Where do you go to find these recommendations?
