Finance Or Software Engineer

3 weeks ago 5

Hello everyone. 19M looking to pursue an education. For as long as I can remember I've been around computers, and recently been debating whether to pursue financial careers, or software engineering. I picked up coding at 16 and been having a blast creating games, it gives me the same feeling as when you play a game and achieve a certain item, rank, or completion. And yet, the frustration it brings and figuring out ways to overcome that said challenge is all part of coding that I enjoy (sometimes). I took a coding class back in grade 10, but dropped it for mechanics because I saw it as an opportunity to try a different field from one that I'm already used to (I'm a gear head too). As for my finance background, I took 3 years of marketing and finance classes in high school and even during COVID I was looking forward to that course. Outside school, I find myself enjoying games that involve managing, income & expenses, and upgrading. I could honestly talk for hours about all the games that I've played that share similar nature, but that brings me to my dilemma and I'm here to ask reddit for some guidance. I do find coding like a hobby, as it brings me the same focus and enjoyment as video games. And based on an artistic friend that dropped 3D animation, she said that the moment your hobby becomes your job, you're going to get burnt out of it. I don't know how true that stands but I took it into consideration and thought of sharing it. I do enjoy learning about finance because I'm less experienced in that field and all of the topics and skills that you can learn from it is like a glass ceiling for growth. That's a little bit about me, anything shared by you guys is appreciated. Thank you!
