Do you think the fig tree in The Bell Jar was in any way inspired by the importance of the fig tree Buddha sat under?

Title says it all. I'm tired and had a random thought. It's been a long time since I read about either, but I just thought of the importance of the fig tree in finding one's "proper"/"true" way in life. Is this a coincidence, or does it mean something?

Or maybe I'm totally off. Was the short story in The Bell Jar in which the fig tree occurs a real short story?
