Do we really have control over our lives or is it an illusion?

The captions says it all.

There is this quote from the tv show Fleabag:

"I am not a bad guy, I just have a bad personality. Some people are born with fucked personalities."

I can confirm this from my life experiences, sometimes no matter what you do some people turn out to be villains or bullies.

I am pretty sure there has been cases in your life that when you look at a child who is barely 5-6 years old and you can still tell that child is going to do terrible things to other people when s/he grows up. Even if the parents raise the child responsibly, some kids still turn out villains. Some of them literally torture animals at the age of 4-5.

I believe that we can have free will up to some percent but I don't think we can choose or change our characters. And our choices are affacted by our character so here's the dilemma. We can maybe hide or suppress our personalities but I don't believe humans can change dramatically.
