Did your perspective change about success as you grow older?

I've been raised that don't lie. Be nice to others. Just work hard and sacrifice eventually life will reward you. But I guess I'm wrong now that I've been noticing people winning in life despite of how much wrong they had done from cheating to betraying and taking shortcuts. I always thought if I do something wrong to someone than it will come back to me one way or another unexpectedly.
