Classic about grief?

I need a could recommendations for my a-level English Literature coursework essay. I have to compare two texts about a theme and one of the two has to be written before 1900. The theme I want to study is grief. I would love some recommendations of literature (written before and after 1900) that centres around this theme. It can be a collection of poems or short stories (where 3 or more of the pieces are about the theme), a novel or a play. Finally, although the name of the course says other wise, it doesn’t have to be English, it can be a text in translation. Thanks so much!
