Authors that write similar to Stephen King but without the - in my opinion- weird s**t King does sometimes

Hi,

I wanted to tap into the collective wisdom because I have the following problem:

I love to read Stephen King and I hate to read Stephen King. I love how he writes, I oftentimes love the story as well as the settings the stories are happening in etc. I just can not stand two things: the so called "horror" or supernatural stuff King is so famous for (I don't say it's bad, it's just not my cup of tea) and when he decides to (at least that's what it feels like to me) f--k up a story completely with some weird s--t. Best example: I absolutely loved reading Billy Summers up to the point where this weird assault scene with the girl, that gets thrown out of a truck, happens. Like what the f--k? I don't know if that is some super strong projection on my side why that triggered me so much, but how the whole scene played out felt at best completely weird and unrealistic and at worst like an old mans disgusting phantasy. I literally threw the book into the corner of the room reading that scene and did not continue reading it for weeks. Needless to say that when I did, the whole thing had turned to ashes in my mouth.

I think the key point is that I enjoy a lot HOW he writes and the whole (for lack of a better description) "american vibe" of it all but I am just sick of trying to "read around" another child getting abused and killed in the most graphic and horrible way for the shock effect, trying my best to turn a blind eye to it. (Please be assured that I do not judge people that don't have a problem with it. I can even "see" why he does it from a stylistic standpoint. It's just that I personally perceive it to be disgusting - and not in a good or even necessary way.)

I liked 11/22/63 and even for example The Stand (even though I am not really into that post-apocalyptic stuff) and Mr. Mercedes (yes, graphic content, but at least not "weird").

Maybe that helps and you can aid me with finding someone that fits the general vibe. That would make me really happy 🧡

Thanks!
