First is the relentless ‘unhappiness’ posts, almost every post you see involves people complaining about either a crippling unhappiness or a lingering sense of ‘Ennui’, usually beginning with ‘I’m M27 my life has no future’, or ‘i’m F21 and there is no hope’, it’s astonishing to see such widespread hopelessness in people so young, you may argue it’s not surprising given the current social climate and that I’m in a fortunate position of having grown up in the 90’s but if you’ve already decided so young that there is no hope for you then you’re absolutely setting yourself up for failure (in terms of happiness)
Optimism should be a hallmark of youth, and it mostly always has been, but your own views (dictated mostly by social media if you’re young) work as an echo chamber, just as the algorithms of your socials work, your mind will too, feeding you things to be perpetually anxious, angry and unhappy about. Nobody knows what they’re doing or how they’re doing it, the images that you’re measuring yourself against aren’t based in reality and are designed for bolstering of shallow concepts such as profit.
Your worth, happiness, contentment and enjoyment is entirely upto you, if you feel there is something wrong with you or your life ask why you believe that, are you being seduced by an idea of ‘success & progress’ projected by a twisted society? Are you more comfortable with being miserable? Is it easier to be unhappy and self-critical?
The second troubling trend on this sub is the presence of a lot of children, and I really do mean children, quite literally actual kids, the youngest I’ve seen posting here has been 12 years of age! That is horrifying, perhaps I’m out of step with modern social media but I don’t understand how that is allowed. Apart from anything else this means as children they’ll be getting inundated with these defeatist mentalities, so we’ve a whole other generation primed to only comprehend the misery of living framed by standards of those who they’ll never meet.
